I haven’t been blogging. Bad Charity. ) But frankly, I’m finding I have more to say on Twitter than I do on my blogs anymore. But I am trying to come up with something to post here. I know….how about a short rant? LOL

You see, recently I had a procedure done at the local hospital. This was on June 30. It was a procedure that required a specialist to perform it which was fine, I didn’t really care. I had my insurance and everything was fine. So I thought. I got my bill the other day, for the doctor. Just the doctor. I haven’t seen the hospital portion yet. I shudder to think what that will be. :/

You see, the bill I got listed $50.00 for the “office visit” aka the doctor showing up at the hospital, talking to me for 5 minutes before the procedure, and sending me a letter and prescription for Nexium afterwards. Then there was the $600 for the procedure he performed – an EGD or Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (if you can pronounce that, I applaud you). My insurance had the office take a “discount” off of $110. But the insurance didn’t pay anything. So now I have a bill for $540 for the doctor alone. Nice to know my insurance didn’t bother to actually cover anything.

Same day I got a bill for the ER for another $553 because the insurance again didn’t cover the ER visit because they determined it an unnecessary ER visit. Because you know, your doctor’s office is always available to help you out on a Sunday night when you’ve had a migraine for 2 days and it won’t go away. A nice Toradol/Compazine cocktail fixed that up, but I didn’t need the $553 hospital bill, especially since our hospital doesn’t let you pay in installments unless you fill out a financial form and then they determine your monthly payment based on what’s left after your main bills and they do NOT care about whether or not you or your pets have food. Grrr. I know this because I’ve filled it out before. And you have to fill one out for each and every bill you have with them. One form will not cover all bills you have outstanding.

Plus, and this is my favorite because I am not the only person this has happened to, they have a bad habit of not sending you anything at all until your bill is about to sent to collections, then they demand the entire amount due at once within 10 days or else they send it to collections. The worst of it? I just got a collections notice for a hospital bill I didn’t even know I had and of course, the collection agency knows nothing about it except they were told that I owed it. Way to go Mercy for being a bunch of jerks.

Of course, I called them and explained that at this time I am unemployed – they didn’t care. I’m still supposed to come up with the money right now to pay them off. Period. Assholes.
