Made In USA

There are a lot of websites telling people to only buy American made items. There was an email that I received where the original person who sent it, whoever they were, said they wouldn’t buy Hershey’s chocolate because the candy bar they bought their grandson said it was made in Mexico, that their Colgate toothpaste said it was made in Mexico so they switched to Crest. They said to change things by making sure you buy only things that are made in the USA. They said that the barcode could tell you if it was made in the USA, Taiwan, China, or wherever it was made. Whatever.

I understand, especially in our economy, that we need to save as many American jobs as possible. BUT, we also need to put ourselves in the other countries’ shoes. Think about this when you pass up that bag of candy because it wasn’t made here, or that tube of toothpaste that wasn’t made here. Imagine you live in Country B. Country A has several big businesses that have manufacturing plants in Country B. You work at one of those factories. Now someone in Country A starts a campaign that says that people who live in Country A should only buy items made there. So people start making sure that what they buy is made in Country A. All of a sudden, your factory, and the other factories in Country B start closing down. You lose your job. You can’t feed your family. You can’t keep a roof over their heads.

Yes, Americans have a right to have jobs. So do those people in other countries. ALL people have a right to jobs, no matter WHERE they are or WHERE their “parent company” for their job is. NO ONE has the right to take someone else’s job away just because they want everything made in THEIR COUNTRY. If the tables were turned, we’d be angry if it happened to us. So why do we feel it’s ok to do it to others? Think about how you’d like it if the tables were turned.
