Once Upon a Time
A friend of mine and I had looked to start up our own little business. We were selling homemade bath salts and hand poured candles. She did the bath salts, I did the candles. I also handled the website for it, right down to the purchase of a domain name. The one problem we had was that our hosting package didn’t come with shopping cart software. We would have loved to have had that and it would have made our business so much easier. We had several people come to the site, and even a few emails saying they’d love to order, but since we didn’t have a way to put anything in a shopping cart, they didn’t know how to go about ordering.
Since the demise of our fledgling business, I’ve come to understand the importance of ecommerce software for the small online business. You can offer all the goods and services you want, but what I’ve come to find is that if people can find a site that let’s them put the items they want into a “shopping cart” and keep shopping, they’ll go there instead of going to a site where they have to either send an email with the descriptions of what they want to the site owner or have to purchase each item individually. I wish I’d known then what I know now, I can tell you that. Our business might have taken off better if I had.
