Laughs Butt Off

The computerized tests I took today said that a customer service position isn’t appropriate for me. Funny – that’s EXACTLY what I’ve been doing for the past year, and from the fact that ALL of my customer satisfaction surveys come back with top scores on them, I’d say that the standardized computer test and the people who wrote it, as well as the people using it, don’t know what a good customer service rep is. First off, the responses you had to pick from sounded absolutely horrible and I cringed at every one of them. None of them were anything that a good rep would say! They weren’t written in a manner that anyone I know speaks in, and frankly there were 4 of us taking those tests and from what I saw, none of us made it past the tests. So yeah – they need to stop worrying about what a computer says and worry more about getting to know the person.

That computer could say I’d be the greatest rep on the planet but then you get me on the phone and I might have the worst customer satisfaction surveys in the building. So computerized tests are not the proper way to judge a person’s ability to perform a job like that. Making me pick from 4 crappy responses when I could have come up with probably 10 different ways to have said it that sounded better and would have engaged the customer better honestly isn’t going to tell you anything. *rolls eyes*

Oh well, one of the employees who walked by us when we were waiting to do the testing told us that we wouldn’t like working there anyways, and I’ve never heard anything GOOD about working there, but I usually don’t listen to that kind of thing. However, I’m thinking they’re right. If they’re using computerized tests instead of checking your work references to find out how good of an employee you are/would be, they need to get a life.

The funniest part – the test was IDENTICAL to the one I took for the same company 2 and a half years ago, AND that time, at the interview level they told me I wasn’t suited for a customer service job. These people have a HUGE turnover and now I see why. They don’t hire the ones who ARE suited for the job and they hire the ones who aren’t!
