I’m Feeling Better
Funny, I’m not at work today and I’m not irritable. Hmmm, maybe it’s my job that causes it? I mean, yeah, I’ve got one more assignment to do with my blogs later on, but that’s easily taken care of in a few moments and then I’m free from that. In all honesty, I need to find a job that pays me enough money that I’m not worried every single payday about what I can and cannot pay. Right now, I’m doing good each payday to get my rent, laptop, and furniture payments made and have enough left over to buy a few groceries and some cat or dog food if I need it, and that’s WITH my paid blogging money. So yeah, that’s a bit on the frustrating side. I was fine until May when they cut my pay by $1 an hour because I had to switch projects.
You know, I could see cutting our pay if we’d chosen to leave our project and go to a different project that paid less. But when our choices were go to a different project or quit, those of us who couldn’t afford to quit shouldn’t have had our pay cut. It’s not our fault that the project we were on decided they wanted all their call centers in one area. I knew that project was on it’s way out the door when they did “round tables” which is what they call the focus groups. Focus groups are the kiss of death in a call center. If you see them holding them, especially if it involves why employees are disgruntled or leaving at a rapid pace, you know your project is taking a dive.
Of course the answer is simple. Don’t piss your employees off. Don’t tell them they get fired if they have more than 4 absences in a year. Yes, I understand that you’ll roll 8 days into one absence if I have a doctor’s note. However, 4 is still a bit too short. I understand that if I’m not there, the 60-some calls I would have taken for the day will have to be answered by someone else. But frankly - I’d like to know why it is all these people have freakin’ time to call in anyways since they should be at work too! And guess what? They aren’t!
Also - I understand that your busiest phone days are Christmas and the day after. However, we have friends and families too that we’d like to spend time with. Did you ever think of that? Nope? Well START! It’s WRONG to make Christmas a mandatory work day for everyone. I have a TEN HOUR shift that I will be REQUIRED to work. Guess what? I work 10A-9P, meaning I won’t have ANY time to spend with my friends/family on Christmas because my ass will be at WORK. Thanks a lot.
I have an interview on Wednesday with another company. I hope I get it because frankly, I don’t relish working Christmas just because people think that they need to call within fifteen minutes of opening their present to activate it. Wait a couple days. It won’t kill you and you know what? You might just make the day of a call center employee who otherwise has to go to work on a day when they should be with family because of YOU.
Sorry for the rant there, but still, I’m not fond of the fact that my job thinks it’s perfectly fine to force us to work full shifts on Christmas and I’m talking EVERY employee, and all supervisors even have to take calls to help with the queue. Come on now, let’s be real. It’s Christmas - people might call, but guess what? They don’t really expect there to be anyone there - because it’s CHRISTMAS! But no, if they think people are going to call, we have to work. *sigh* Yeah I’m Wiccan, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to spend time with my friends/family. *rolls eyes*
Anyhow, I think I’m going to go find myself something to drink and finish my book. It’s a really good one even if it is 13 years old. LOL
