My So-Called Life
Happy Halloween – Want Some Candy??
I couldn’t work today because although my voice is better, it’s still going in and out. No problem I thought, I’ll stop at the dollar store, get some candy, and I’ll pass it out. I haven’t done that in years and I’ve been wanting to. So my friend stopped at Dollar Tree on the way back to my apartment (and 2 Wal-Marts, a Walgreens, and a Burger King lol) and while at Dollar Tree, I picked up $8 worth of candy. I got 2 bags of Lemonheads, 1 bag of Chocolately Chewy Dum-Dum Pops, 1 bag of regular Dum-Dum Pops, 2 bags of Tootise Pops, and 2 bags of Chick-o-Sticks. At Wal-Mart & Walgreens I picked up extras – a black plastic cauldron to hold the candy, a pair of cool purple gloves with spiderweb design, and some FantasyMakers makeup. I got all dressed up, put the candy in the cauldron, turned on the porch light, and waited. And waited.
For nothing. Not a single trick or treater. Not one. Nothing. So I stepped outside with my dog, and lo and behold, there were 2 porch lights on across the street and mine. EVERY SINGLE OTHER PORCH LIGHT WAS OFF. Now let me explain the significance of this. Where I live they have “rules” for trick or treating. Trick or treating is done strictly between 6pm and 8pm on Halloween night. If a household is giving out candy, then they turn on their porch light. If they aren’t, then the porch light must remain off. The light is to be turned on at 6pm and turned off at 8pm. Trick or treaters are not to go to any front door that does not have a porch light on.
Most of our porches not having lights on means that in a neighborhood that actually has quite a few kids, and quite a few people who DECORATED FOR HALLOWEEN- nobody was handing out candy. I am not amused. I have $8.00 worth of candy, most of which I don’t like. I don’t like Tootsie Pops or Lemonheads. I like Dum-Dum pops and Chick-o-Sticks. The Chocolately Chewy Dum-Dum pops are ok I suppose. I’ll have to take the cauldron to work with me tomorrow and see how much of the candy I can get my team mates to eat. LOL
In any case, Happy Halloween everyone!
