Good Customer Service
One of the goals that my call center strives for is good customer service. Now what burns me up is people who work for other call centers who try to tell me how to do my job. I actually had a woman last night tell me that the first thing I should be asking is what number she is calling from so I can call her back. Our policy does not permit us to make outbound calls. I explained this to her. She said that was bad customer service and that the policy needed to change. Ok, hello, we are an inbound call center. That means we don’t make outbound calls. Now in very special circumstances we can make outbound calls, but unfortunately, calls being dropped because you wandered into a dead zone for your cell phone or you don’t know the range on your cordless does not constitute a special circumstance.
Now I was reading an article about how bad customer service can drive customers away from stores. That’s really funny because you know what? I don’t let the cashiers decide where I shop. If I don’t like the way a cashier treated me, I just won’t go through their line unless necessary. Simple as that. I’m not going to stop going to the store. And the article’s “expert” saying it’s the location’s management that has to do with it obviously knows nothing. Why? Because there is different management at every Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart, Hy-Vee, what have you, and guess what? I don’t see any differences in service overall. One or two cashiers, maybe. It is the CASHIER not the management who gives bad service. Duh. And my favorite comments was employees ignoring shoppers who need help. Um yeah, and how many shoppers actually ASK for help? I can’t count how many times when I worked for Wal-Mart I approached customers who looked like they were a bit lost or needed help and asked if I could help them, the answer I always received was “No thank you, I’m just looking.” So frankly, why wouldn’t they ignore them unless asked? *rolls eyes*
Some times I think I need to get out of the customer service industry but at the moment, the job I have is providing benefits I need such as a paycheck (duh), health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 401k plan, etc. So I mean, the job offers me things I need so I suppose I’d better keep the job for a while. I’m getting really sick though of people who write articles telling me how my job should be done and telling me that because they work in a call center (bid fat hairy deal, they all have different policies) that I don’t do my job right. You don’t do my job, so you don’t know if I’m doing it right or not. Keep your mouth shut. Thank you.
