Gas Leak

Ok, now I’m posting this because there are numerous other posts on this blog that discuss my idiot neighbors. Once again, I am here to regale you with a tale of how one of my neighbors could have caused a major problem in my apartment building. The title of this post might give you a clue about what’s going to ensue, but I’ll tell you anyways. ;)

So I get home from work on Friday night and as usual, I head around the side of the building to check my mail. Nothing new about that – but when I got to the entryway that our mailboxes are in, I smelled something that really stunk. And I mean REALLY stunk. It reminded me of gas and I thought maybe the landlords had turned the furnace on for the winter already – the building has a slight gas smell for a few hours when they first light the pilot light each year. But when I got into my apartment and looked at my thermostat, which is on, the temp in the apartment was lower than the cut off point for the heater to kick in. So I knew that wasn’t it.

Now you have to understand, I was going to be leaving and spending the night at LaShawn’s house and my pets were going to be there alone overnight. Plus, I have a major fire phobia, so my immediate thought was a gas leak. So I called the gas company. The tech got to the apartment building and checked the meters, then went to the upstairs apartments. Well, he must have smelled it when he got up there because he started knocking on doors.

He found the problem at the second door he knocked on. The guy in that apartment had either started to turn on his stove or didn’t get it all the way off. The tech made him open his windows – it was that strong in there. One spark in the upstairs of the building – especially that apartment – and at least the upper floor of the building would have blown up. So yeah, once again, I seem to be the guardian of the apartment building. The sad thing is, I was the only person awake in the building. Everyone else had gone to bed. *sigh*

I swear, I need to move. LOL
