I attended my 2nd funeral of the week today. Last Sunday a member of my best friend’s church passed away and so I ended up going with them to that funeral, although it was more of an I knew him but did not know him scenario. But out of respect I did go to that funeral. Then today, we had another funeral, this time for one of BFL’s and my friend’s from high school’s mother. Her mom had passed away on Tuesday and her funeral was today. So BFL and I went. We were the only ones of our high school friends to attend the funeral.

I thought it was kind of sad, she announced everything over Facebook so that her friends would know, and yet BFL and I were the only of her old high school friends to show up at the funeral. Then we went to the luncheon afterward and it was a pretty good time. We all sat around and talked about things from moisturizers for face & body to what we did for a living. So we had some fun and our friend told us we should get together at her place sometime, which we said we’d have to coordinate with her on.

I’m just hoping this is the last funeral for a while. I am not a big fan of funerals although I will say that they have drastically changed since my dad and my real mom’s funerals/memorial services were held back in 1987 and 1989. Back then, it was all very somber, all very solemn and sad, and a lot of crying. Now it is more about celebrating the life the person lived than about mourning the loss of the person. Which I like – because focusing on the good times and the life the person lived allows you to heal easier in my experience than being sad, solemn, and somber the whole time. But that’s just my point of view on it.
