My absolute favorite holiday is Halloween. Whether you celebrate the Wiccan/Pagan Samhain or the secular Halloween, this holiday is all about fun. You can be whatever you want to be, whoever you want to be. You can honor your loved ones who have gone on to the next world before you. You can stay home and pass out candy to the kids who are celebrating the holiday. You can even get a bunch of Halloween invitations and have a party if you like!
Myself, I’d love to have a party but I don’t know if my schedule at work will allow me to do so or not. I don’t want to actually ask for the night off, although with my current schedule I would normally be off on Halloween for 2009. But at this point, I think what I’ll be doing is honoring my loved ones who have gone before me and maybe handing out some candy to the kids, if there are any. The past couple of years, the number of kids out trick or treating has declined drastically. I think last year we only had 8-10 of them all night. So I’m seriously wondering if trick or treating is a dying art.
That would stink, since frankly, Halloween is my favorite holiday and I know that if trick or treating dies, so will Halloween.
