I Get Asked This All The Time

One of the things we do at work is we order phones for customers. The only phone we absolutely can not order is the iPhone, but the rest of the phones, hey if it populates for us as an option, we’ll order it for you. The question we get asked all the time is “how long will it take to reach me?” Well, that depends. Yes, most phones ship within 1 business day of the order being placed. However, that means if the order isn’t placed by about 4PM ET on Friday, your phone will not ship out until Monday. Why? Weekends are not business days. It’s measured in business days aka, Monday-Friday from 8AM ET to 4PM ET. Yeah. Nice huh?

This means that if you so happen to call me on Friday at 8:30PM ET and order a new Blackberry, our fulfillment center will not receive, process, or ship the order until Monday sometime. But you will receive your precious phone soon. My favorites though are the ones who request the overnight shipping. Great, but still, you won’t get the phone until the fulfillment center receives, processes, and ships the phone, which will still not be until the next business day after your place your order. Sorry guys, that’s just the way it goes.

In some ways I miss that sort of job but in other ways I don’t. KWIM?

People can be so impatient when it comes to shopping, especially when ordering something online or over the phone. There is this assumption that just because they can call at any time they think people are working all sectors 24/7. I don’t think people who have never even worked in sales ever really stop to think about it rationally and just assume “next day shipment” means they’ll get their phone/item the next day.
