I was minding my own business on my Yahoo Messenger earlier, just chatting it up with BFL even though we’re in the same room (go figure) and all of a sudden I get a deluge of instant message spam. I’m talking about everything from North Carolina auto insurance to low cost medical insurance. Even a few not work appropriate spam sites as well.
To be perfectly honest the instant message spam has gotten way out of control. I have one Yahoo name that no longer sign into simply because there is too much IM spam on it. The few times I do log into it, there are at least 40 if not more IM spam message waiting for me. It’s getting to be as bad as email spam. 
Between email spam, comment spam, and IM spam, it’s a wonder anyone has time to actually surf the web, blog, email, or IM. I mean really, I spend a lot of time each day dealing with this stuff, and I have anti-spam measures in place. My spam folders catch a lot of stuff in my email and I use both Bad Behavior and Akismet on my blogs. But for IM spam, there is no filters. Just a button to report it on AIM or a block on Yahoo. *sigh* Maybe the companies who do IM software should look at possibly adding a spam catcher on for instant messages.
