ARGH!

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

You have to love the financial aid department. I got a letter today stating that I am ineligible to use ANY financial aid at all. They’re saying not even my student loans, which I was told that they CANNOT take away eligibility for as they must be paid back. Basically the answer I got when I called them about the letter was “I hope you have money saved because you’ll not be going to school unless you do.” Hello? At $102 PER CREDIT HOUR, do you really think I’m going to have the money saved up for that? Let me think here, NO, I am not. Hell, I can’t even save for a vacation right now, much less school. At this point, if I even can start saving for school, I’ll have maybe one class worth of savings by the start of the Spring semester. The fall semester is now out of the question. I’ll be damned lucky if I have enough to pay for 2 classes plus books in the Spring semester.

Why is this a problem? Because when I went to school there 14 years ago, they didn’t process my drop papers promptly and ended up not processing them until over 2 weeks after I submitted them. Then they informed me that I would be failing all classes due to not turning in the paperwork on time. Nevermind that the date on the paperwork submitted AND the stamp they stamped it with when I submitted it were BEFORE the deadline. They went by when they processed it. So I failed ALL of my classes and now can’t use financial aid until I take and pass at least one half of my classes. Problem? I have to take at least 4 classes and pass 2 of them before they’ll remove the financial aid suspension. This is their way of basically saying “do not EVER attempt to go to school again, you are a horrible student and should never be permitted near a classroom.” The funny thing is, when my friend failed all of HER classes, her LOANS weren’t suspended, just her grants. But my loans are even suspended.

So now I have to go fight with them about why the hell I know people who still used their loans when on “academic probation” but I can’t.

Le Sigh

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

I got an email a couple hours ago from a co-worker who knows that I have more than one computer. He was trying to see if I wanted to buy a used cisco router from him. I had to tell him I don’t have internet at home, and have never quite gotten the hang of accessing other computers on the home network. My friend Owen can, I can’t. I’m sure that going into the field of Computer Networking at college will give me the knowledge to do it, but right now, I don’t have it, and really don’t need it. That’s why I have a portable hard drive! LOL

I’m still waiting for a confirmation from the school about when I go in for the computer placement test and the like. I’m not really too happy with them as they’ve ignored both emails and phone calls about it. I’m pretty sure it starts at 3:45 PM, but I’d like to know where I’m supposed to go in the building for it, etc. Might be a good thing to know! )

I’ve been playing an online browser game at work and when I’m online at LaShawn’s house - it’s called Ikariam. It’s pretty neat. You build a town on an island, you colonize other islands, make trade agreements with other members, fight corruption in your towns. I like it, even though I don’t really have corruption and I only have 2 colonies. LOL But it’s a cool game.

Ok, I’m running out of things to say, as evidenced by my ramblings. I’m trying to get myself to write longer posts, not doing these little short burst type things I’ve been doing. So far, not going well, as I can’t seem to write a lot at once. *sigh* Oh well, I’m sure I’ll get better. )

Where Did They Go?

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Ever wonder where the commercials of days past went? You know what I mean. All those commercials that were for products that you never see anymore. The commercials, not the products. I’m talking about adult diaper commercials, douche commercials, stuff like that. Although I’ve noted that the majority of the commercials that don’t get shown on TV anymore are for products that are more or less embarrassing. LOL One set of commercials I haven’t seen lately, and am kind of glad were the condom commercials. More because they fell under the category of “stupid commercial alert” than because of what they were advertising. To be perfectly honest, there are a lot of stupid commercials out there. I’m glad those are gone, I’m just wondering where a lot of the commercials went. LOL

And for that matter, where did all the funny commercials go? If you’re going to make me sit through ads on TV, at least make them entertaining!

Just Curious

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

When are VH1 and Bret Michaels going to get tired of it? Now I’m not going to pretend that I’ve ever seen an episode of Rock of Love or Rock of Love 2. I am not by any stretch of the imagination an reality show fan. I didn’t even watch the Tough Enough WWE wrestling camp reality show. Maybe, just maybe, if they did a reality series with a NASCAR driver - maybe one involving Tony Stewart and his new team, I might watch. Otherwise, no thanks.

But just thinking about it - Bret and the winner of Rock of Love broke up. So they did Rock of Love 2. Now he and the winner of Rock of Love 2 broke up, so they’re going to do Rock of Love 3. I understand that as a touring rock star, relationships aren’t exactly easy. But seriously folks, there are plenty of rock stars who are married and who do manage to stay that way for quite a while. Granted there are those who can’t stay married to save their lives, but there are quite a few who are married and have been married for quite a while.

I don’t know, maybe it’s my abject dislike of reality shows coming out, but I’d think that Bret would get tired of publicizing his love life woes. VH1 probably doesn’t get tired of it because they get ratings, but Bret is airing his personal issues (aka love life problems) on national television. You’d think he’d either get the picture or get tired of it. One of the two.
