Kaneva

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Well, I’ve discovered that Kaneva doesn’t work on my new laptop. It’s supposed to work with Vista, and it does on my best friend’s computer, but it won’t on mine. Maybe there’s something in the hardware requirements that’s changed? Although we both have 1GB of memory on our laptops, and Kaneva is the only thing that won’t run. But perhaps I need to do an upgrade of the laptop memory? I’ll have to see about that because the laptop isn’t technically mine until I pay it off. LOL But I’m sure that a memory upgrade wouldn’t hurt either.

Holy Cow!

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

I am so glad I do not live in the San Antonio area. As I’m sitting here at work, I am trying to transfer someone to the local Time Warner office in San Antonio and just heard that the expected wait time is 1 hour 26 minutes - 2 hours. I’m going to wait on the line for a few minutes though, because I know that sometimes, that wait time is not the real wait time, especially when it is a transfer from my level of support.

I tried to drop some entrecards from my desk here at work, but although I could load the entrecard website, half the sites wouldn’t load, as our proxy server blocks blogger.com websites. ( So I can’t drop entrecards right now. Bleh. I wish I could because I’ve been really bad about dropping my cards lately. My only problem is, besides not having access to the internet at home, I have 4 blogs at entrecard right now, and they recently started limiting how many cards you can drop from a particular IP address per day. So if you have more than one blog, you can only do I believe it is 2 blogs’ worth of card drops per IP address per day. Boo. That means when I do get access again, I’ll have to split my drops up, two of the blogs every other day, swapping back and forth between the sets of blogs. Lovely. Then again, I’m probably hogging entrecard resources with that many blogs in the system. I’ve considered deleting a couple of the blogs, but a couple of them have actually gotten some new readers because of my having the blogs in entrecard, so I hate to do it.

And finally a pet peeve. I realize that now SEO is all the rage and that trying to get your keywords to show your site at the very top when you do a google search is what everyone wants, but please, when you leave a comment, leave your name. Not your site name, not a keyword for your site. Your NAME. From now on, no matter how relevant to the post the comment is, unless I know you, I’m going to delete your comment. No, I’m not going to strip your link, I’m just going to delete your comment, period. I don’t need your comment hanging around on my blog if all it’s really there for is to get YOUR site some google love. I am sorely tempted to remove my nofollow plugin for that reason. So be kind, leave a proper name and forget the SEO thing. This blog might be monetized and I might do posts for pay, but quite frankly, it’s still a PERSONAL blog, and I do post things about my life here as well. I prefer to keep my comments on point, and frankly, having site names and keyword phrases in my comments looks spammy. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Entrecard Dropping

Friday, April 25th, 2008

I haven’t been doing my Entrecard dropping lately. Why not you ask? Because I haven’t really been able to do any of my blog surfing. Not having internet at home, and having to walk to the library to get access is a bit on the trying side. When I do walk to the library, the weather has to be good, since I have to take my laptop to the library to get access. By the time I get there, I have just enough time to take care of email, shooting off a few posts, doing a little research for a friend of mine about the best diet pills and then I have to pack it all up for my ride to work. Yeesh! It’s really not conducive to dropping the cards.

Plus, I have to say, the library’s connection is horrible! It’s slower than I expected, worse than dialup at times. I can’t listen to music online at all, because it won’t load, and I can only open one tab on IE or Firefox at a time or the pages won’t load. Yet when I’m at LaShawn’s house, hooked up to her router, even with all three computers going, the speed is perfectly fine. Go figure. *sigh*

So you can imagine that dropping cards is being relegated to my weekly visit to LaShawn’s place, where I can hook up to her router (I love having a best friend with a router in place), so I can have internet. )

In any case, I’m hoping to have internet access soon. I have to pay off the phone company and then…I should be able to get my phone turned on and get the DSL from them. D I’ll be happy when I do because I want internet! LOL

Contest at Charity-Lynn.com

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Well, I went ahead and did it. I made a contest. If you want to check it out and enter, you can go here. ) It’s not much, but it’s a nice prize. I forgot to mention a few places that you technically could get gift cards to, since I do have those stores here, but that’s ok. I’ll save that for a future gift card giveaway.

Right now, I’m trying to decide what my next giveaway will be, and where it will be. I’m figuring if I do any sort of gadget giveaway, it’ll be on Basically Geeky, I might do a book giveaway on Bloody Kisses, another gift card giveaway, but on this blog, or I might do a different prize but keep the giveaway on Charity-Lynn.com. I don’t know yet. I do know however, that I will not be giving away anything like home theater carpet! LOL That would be just a little bit out of my price range. )

I kind of like running a contest. It’s fun. ) If you have any ideas for prizes, let me know.
