New Theme

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Well, I changed the theme, as I said I would. This one isn’t my favorite, but it’ll do for now. I’m trying to decide if I want to make a theme for myself again or find a different theme from WordPress. I’ll figure it out eventually. )

Someone was asking me the other day about vacation spots. I told him I didn’t know what he should do or where he should go. He wondered about looking at Pigeon Forge cabin rentals. I told him to go for it if that’s what trips his trigger. LOL I don’t care. I’m not going with him. ) In any case, I’m not in the market for a vacation. I’ve had too much time off this week as it is.

All right, I suppose I’d better be off for the time being. I need to go looking for a few things. Plugins and whatnot. )

Happy Halloween - Want Some Candy??

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

I couldn’t work today because although my voice is better, it’s still going in and out. No problem I thought, I’ll stop at the dollar store, get some candy, and I’ll pass it out. I haven’t done that in years and I’ve been wanting to. So my friend stopped at Dollar Tree on the way back to my apartment (and 2 Wal-Marts, a Walgreens, and a Burger King lol) and while at Dollar Tree, I picked up $8 worth of candy. I got 2 bags of Lemonheads, 1 bag of Chocolately Chewy Dum-Dum Pops, 1 bag of regular Dum-Dum Pops, 2 bags of Tootise Pops, and 2 bags of Chick-o-Sticks. At Wal-Mart & Walgreens I picked up extras - a black plastic cauldron to hold the candy, a pair of cool purple gloves with spiderweb design, and some FantasyMakers makeup. I got all dressed up, put the candy in the cauldron, turned on the porch light, and waited. And waited.

For nothing. Not a single trick or treater. Not one. Nothing. So I stepped outside with my dog, and lo and behold, there were 2 porch lights on across the street and mine. EVERY SINGLE OTHER PORCH LIGHT WAS OFF. Now let me explain the significance of this. Where I live they have “rules” for trick or treating. Trick or treating is done strictly between 6pm and 8pm on Halloween night. If a household is giving out candy, then they turn on their porch light. If they aren’t, then the porch light must remain off. The light is to be turned on at 6pm and turned off at 8pm. Trick or treaters are not to go to any front door that does not have a porch light on.

Most of our porches not having lights on means that in a neighborhood that actually has quite a few kids, and quite a few people who DECORATED FOR HALLOWEEN- nobody was handing out candy. I am not amused. I have $8.00 worth of candy, most of which I don’t like. I don’t like Tootsie Pops or Lemonheads. I like Dum-Dum pops and Chick-o-Sticks. The Chocolately Chewy Dum-Dum pops are ok I suppose. I’ll have to take the cauldron to work with me tomorrow and see how much of the candy I can get my team mates to eat. LOL

In any case, Happy Halloween everyone!

Worried??

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

So, all my fellow bloggers. How are you doing with the Google PR thing? Myself, I think it ludicrous that one entity has so much sway over the way people create links to other sites. Is it better to have more outgoing or incoming? People with paid links should get penalized (how stupid when Google themselves have a method of paying you for showing links THEY choose), people who have “unnatural linking schemes” should be penalized. I think it’s all stupid and I could care less to tell the truth about any of it.

I have too much in my own real life to worry about to be worrying about what Google and their mystery algorithms think of my website. Rank me as you please Google, I could honestly care less.

At this very moment, I’m working on figuring out how I’m going to pay my bills next paycheck since I happen to have missed 3 days due to bronchitis and laryngitis. My voice is coming back, thank Goddess, and I’m hoping to be able to return to work tomorrow. On top of this, I’ve got Yahoo! being a bunch of morons (big surprise there), a dog who thinks that since I’m sick I need to walk him 15 times a day, and a DVR that has been sorely neglected. I’m multitasking right now, watching the shows taped on the DVR and blogging at the same time.

And while I was more than proud to go pink in October for Breast Cancer Awareness, I am VERY happy to say that I will be changing the theme tomorrow night. Pink is not my color and honestly, I can’t wait to change the theme again. )

Once Upon a Time

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

A friend of mine and I had looked to start up our own little business. We were selling homemade bath salts and hand poured candles. She did the bath salts, I did the candles. I also handled the website for it, right down to the purchase of a domain name. The one problem we had was that our hosting package didn’t come with shopping cart software. We would have loved to have had that and it would have made our business so much easier. We had several people come to the site, and even a few emails saying they’d love to order, but since we didn’t have a way to put anything in a shopping cart, they didn’t know how to go about ordering.

Since the demise of our fledgling business, I’ve come to understand the importance of ecommerce software for the small online business. You can offer all the goods and services you want, but what I’ve come to find is that if people can find a site that let’s them put the items they want into a “shopping cart” and keep shopping, they’ll go there instead of going to a site where they have to either send an email with the descriptions of what they want to the site owner or have to purchase each item individually. I wish I’d known then what I know now, I can tell you that. Our business might have taken off better if I had.
